Living the Golden Rule
The majority of books published on how to achieve success and satisfaction in work and personal relationships tend to fall into the same trap: They focus on a limited number of simple steps or keys to achieve that success, all the while assuming that the exact same process will work for everyone. Rather than offering guidance, they tend to mandate requirements.
In contrast, How in the World Do We Make a Difference? provides readers with the necessary foundation to begin a journey to find happiness and fulfillment in their lives and the lives of those around them. Written in a unique, collaborative fashion by three men--a priest, lawyer and professor--this book contains stories of personal experiences with faith, love and work from the authors' lives and from the lives of their friends, clients, students and colleagues. The most important thing to remember, say the authors, is to always live by the Golden Rule--"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Living by this philosophy can dramatically improve the satisfaction and fulfillment we get from life, love and work.
Beginning with the basic assumption that there is a Higher Power in the universe, the authors address four core questions:
- Where in the world is our God?
- How in the world do we relate to one another?
- What in the world do we do, and why do we do it?
- How in the world do we make a difference?
By discussing these broad questions in detailed, pragmatic ways using real-life examples, the authors guide readers down a path that offers encouragement and support in four key areas of life: the healing of a hurt, reconciliation in a relationship, inspiration to action, and guidance for living. Reflection questions at the end of each chapter, combined with the extensive use of quotes from people of all walks of life and faith traditions, inspire readers to ponder their own understanding of spirituality and explore how they can create true happiness and fulfillment in their lives.
